Today is the day that we have all been waiting on, May 16, 2012.

This is the day that 16 winning United kingdom couples will have their dream wedding simultaneously on 16 incredible islands of the Bahamas after winning the Bahamas 16 Island Weddings Invitation promotion.

And although the weather has been a little rainy today is going to be a great day for these brides and grooms and their families and friends. 

The promotion was intended to focus on the diversity of the Islands of the Bahamas and highlight each island’s unique characteristic and experience offered to  vacationers.

Here is a snapshot 16 islands and the winning couples that will be having their dream wedding on the island.

Grand Bahamas Island Enchanted Encounter 

Mary Gleeson and James Potter of Whitfield, Dover will have their wedding ceremony on the ocean floor with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in attendance. With their Grand Bahamas island themed wedding “Enchanted Encounter” and will honeymoon at the Grand Lucayan Resort

Acklins Island Wedding Golden Grove Romance 

Louise Murfin and Steven Bennett of Huddersfield, Yorkshire will be saying ‘I do’ in their Acklins Island themed wedding “GOLDEN GROVE ROMANCE ” on a secluded powdery whites sand beach with the sun shining overhead.   They will then honeymoon at Ivel’s intimate guest house.

Andros Island Wedding Love in the Deep Blue Sea

Helena Hewett and Jonathan Briley of London will take the plunge  with their Andros Island themed wedding “LOVE IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA” at the island’s most famous Blue Hole, Captain Bill’s Blue Hole and later honeymoon at Kamalame Cay.

Bimini Island Wedding Lost in Your Embrace

Karén Minns and Kane Nelson from Leeds  will have their Bimini Island themed wedding “LOST IN YOUR EMBRACE” were Hemingway wrote “Island in the Stream” saying ‘I do’ beneath an bridal arch and honeymooning at Bimini Bay Resort.

Cat Island Wedding Top of the World

Joanna Wicenciak and Peter Dennis of Scunthorpe, Cat Island themed wedding “Top of the World” will take place at the The Hermitage, a medieval-style chapel located at the highest point on Cat Island, Mt Alvernia.

The couple will then honeymoon at Fernandez Bay Village, Cat Island.

San Salvador Island Wedding Landfall Elegance

Teresa Maria Gilarranz Pena and Tarik Demnati of London will be retracing the steps of Christopher Columbus when they say ‘I do’ in their San Salvador Island theme wedding “LANDFALL ELEGANCE” at historic spot that Columbus is said to have first landed in the New World, using the white-stone cross at San Salvador’s Landfall Monument, as their altar. They will honeymoon at Riding Rock Resort and Marina.

The Abacos Island Wedding Light Up My Life

Carla Nevill and Daniel Coote of Baldock, Hertfordshire will celebrate their Abaco Island theme wedding “LIGHT UP MY LIFE” against the backdrop of an iconic candy-striped Elbow Cay lighthouse.  One of the last two manually operated kerosene lighthouses in the islands of the Bahamas.

The couple will be staying in the honeymoon cottage at the Firefly Sunset Resort in Hope Town.

Claire Wilcox and James Williams of York, will say ‘I do’ in their Mayaguana Island theme wedding “MONUMENTAL LOVE” at the historic monument commemorating the landing of the first rocket that would take colour photos of Earth in 1959. On the only island in the Bahamas still bearing the name given to it by its earliest inhabitants.  The couple will be spending their honeymoon at the Baycaner Beach Resort.

Felicity Carpenter and Andrew Webb Amesbury, Salisbury will have their Crooked Island themed wedding “SEASHELL BEAUTY” walking up an aisle decked with local seashells on a pristine white sand beach to a gazebo on the waterfront, at Tranquility on the Bay Resort, where they will also be staying for their honeymoon.

Grazina Zaveckaite and Ruslanas Nekipelovas of Edinburgh will celebrate their Exuma Island theme wedding “SEASIDE SERENADE” in a garden gazebo, with fuchsia roses and magenta orchids, pink paper lanterns, pretty butterflies, Bahamian iguana and pigs  with an amazing views of the pristine waters surrounding the island.

Sarah Wassell and Colin Beechey of Blackpool, will have their Long Island wedding “TROPICAL DREAM” on the world famous soft white sand beach at the Stella Maris Resort where they will also be honeymooning.

Jill Barthram and Philip Jones, London will have toes in the sand on one of the most historic islands in the Bahamas and following in the footsteps of Mariah Carey . When they have their Eleuthera Island wedding “BAREFOOT LOVERS BLISS” on the secluded beach at Sky Beach Club, the venue for their honeymoon as well.

Laura James and Richard Baker of Fareham, Hampshire will have their Harbour Island Wedding “PINK SAND PARADISE” on this quaint island known for its pink sand and backdrop for the Tyler Perry blockbuster movie “Why Did I Get Married Too.” The couple will also honeymoon on the island at Private Watercolour cottage.
