Bahamas Gets New US Departure Terminal at LPIA
The much anticipated new US departure terminal at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau is now open. The opening of the new facility constructed at a cost of $198 million was described by Frank Watson, chairman of the Airport Authority and Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) as a “proud” moment for all Bahamians and “milestone in Bahamian history.”
The new terminal marks the completion of the first phase of the $410 million Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) redevelopment project that is transforming the airport into a world class facility and increasing its capacity to accommodate some an 5 million passengers.
The new 247, 000 square foot US departure terminal apart from providing passengers with American Customs and Immigration pre-clearance also features a $10 million state-of-the-art baggage system, eco-friendly building design and artwork displays by Bahamian artists.
