Caribbean Wedding on the Beach in the Bahamas

While I am passionate about the islands of Andros and New Providence (Nassau), you can choose a beach on any of the 700 islands and cays of the Bahamas, that stretches across more than 100,000 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean. Starting just off the south eastern coast of Florida and extending along the coast of Cuba to Haiti. Making the Bahamas not only the gateway to the Caribbean but to Caribbean wedding as well.

And having your wedding on the beach allows you to incorporate so much more of yourself in the wedding ceremony. Thereby creating such a memorable experience for your guest that they will be talking about your Caribbean wedding for a lifetime.

Music for Your Caribbean Themed Wedding Ceremony

Do I need music for my beach wedding ceremony?

It is a question I get all the time and I am sure if you are planning to have your Caribbean themed wedding on the beach you may have the same question.

Do I need music for my beach wedding ceremony?

And the answer is not as simple as you may think and usually as varied as the persons you ask.

Bahamas Beach Wedding Music

Some persons feel that music will just distract from the natural charm that is created by the various sounds of nature – the wind blowing, the ocean waves cascading onto the beach and rocks, the singing of the birds and the blending of other surrounding noises.  As these sounds are a part of what makes a tropical wedding on the beach, romantic.

Others feel that the music will be overwhelmed by the surrounding noises. So having music would be pointless. Yet others feel that this can be overcome with the use of an amplifier and playing soft music through the amplifier would be great.

Music or not is your choice

As you can see from the answers it really comes down to your personal preference and you can be as traditional or eclectic as you like.

Having officiated at wedding ceremony on the beach, I can assure you that I have seen and heard it all. Weddings with music and wedding ceremonies without music. And weddings with the guest singing or ringing bells while the bride and groom walk down the aisle.

However, I feel that your desire to have music or not  at your Caribbean themed wedding depends on the length, size and style of your ceremony and the involvement of your guest. If you are planning on a larger, more formal ceremony then music would be expected.  While smaller and informal ceremonies allows you more freedom.  Check out this Bahamas beach wedding package

Caribbean themed music

While I like having traditional sounds of stringed music from a harp, violin or a guitar, there is nothing like the energy and aura at a Caribbean themed wedding as having a Caribbean Steel pan playing while your guest are being seated and during your processional and recessional.

The Steel pan although traditionally tied to the Carnival celebrations in Trinidad is played across the Caribbean and there are a variety of pans, playing a range of tones. Making the steel pan a versatile rhythm drum and the ideal instrument for providing the music for your Caribbean themed beach wedding.

Unity Sand Ceremony

A Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony Bahamas Style

I am finding myself officiating at more Unity Sand Wedding Ceremonies as they are becoming quite popular not only for its keepsake and decorative result but also because they are much more practical for the outdoors where candles can be affected by nature.

Unity Sand Ceremony in the Bahamas

And if a Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony is what you have planned for your special day then the Bahamas is just the place for you – as there is an abundance of sand!

Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony can take a few forms. You can either use three decorative glass vase, placing one color of sand into one vase and a second color into another vase to represent the Bride and Groom. Check out these Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony kits

During the service the Groom pours a portion of his sand into the third keepsake vessel. The Bride then pours a portion of her sand in on top of the Groom’s in the third vase. To conclude, the Bride and the Groom jointly pour the remaining sand in each of their respective vase into the keepsake vessels. Thereby commingling the colors of their sand into a creative demonstration of two becoming one.

Or you can simply choose to pour your sand into the wind to represent the coming together of your lives.

Here is a lovely example of how a wedding sand ceremony is performed.

Wedding Sand Ceremony

In the Bahamas you can get your two colors without having to use any coloring dye as there is naturally both pink and powdery white sand.

If you need some ideas for your ceremony here are two Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony that your Wedding Bahamas Style Wedding Officiant recommends.

Sample 1 – Bahamas Wedding Style Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony

WEDDING OFFICIANT: – Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you BRIDE and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, GROOM, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be.

As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one.

Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.”

Sample 2 – Bahamas Wedding Style Unity Sand Wedding Ceremony

WEDDING OFFICIANT: – Please note this empty glass. Glass, itself, is made from sand and the sands of time have come together, melting into one piece to make this vessel.

The sands of time should remind us all of our eternal love and our mortality.

Today BRIDE and GROOM have chosen to represent their love to each other in a special sand ceremony.

Please BRIDE and GROOM, take your separate glass of sand and alternate the pouring of sand into this joining vessel and united, repeat after me:

You are my love for eternity. I blend with you. My heart is like these grains of sands, merging with yours. I am yours. You are mine.

We are together forever like the sand, like the wind. We are one.”
